Christmas food all wrapped up – Arden & Amici style« Back

December 3, 2015

A&A Christmas Full Range with backgroundExactly how do Italians like to give and wrap presents at Christmas? Is it all holly and ivy – or is there a more flamboyant etiquette at play?

For Italians the ultimate present is gourmet food or drink. And preferably classic Italian – and why shouldn’t they? Remember this is the nation that gave us pasta, Parmesan and pesto – and so doesn’t really need to investigate other food cultures.

Wrapping paper is always colourful & beautiful with plenty of bows and ribbons. Interestingly there are in fact colours to avoid in the Italian culture – black and gold together is viewed funereal – and as a devout Catholic nation – purple is totally out.

It’s the reason you’ll see plenty of Panettone, Panforte and classic Italian sweet biscuits presented in tins and perfectly wrapped at Christmas time. Giving good food is a tradition in Italy, it’s warmly welcomed and seen as a gesture of seasonal goodwill and a sign of good taste.

The Arden & Amici Classic Panettone and its sweet cousins the Choc chip or seasonal Cranberry and Orange Panettone make pretty and practical presents at the time of year when great gaggles of guests arrive and require immediate sustenance. It comes beautifully hand wrapped too, Italiano style.

The Tuscan Panforte is an altogether smaller, but nevertheless delicious gift. Made with candied peel, almonds and deeply spiced, this rich, nutty and chewy delight is heartily wrapped in pretty paper and works well with a glass of sweet Christmas wine.

Arden and Amici’s tins of Nutty Almond Cantuccini, Crunchy Amaretti and Soft Amaretti make a wonderful Christmas cracker-shaped parcel, wrap them in colourful paper, adorn with a pretty bow and stand back and wait for the whoops of delight!

So this Christmas, why not say it with biscuits?
